The first of these two segments highlights the importance of Skinner’s vision for behavior analysis—that it would become a mainstream science pertinent to both the minor and major problems of everyday human life, including with typical families.
Topics:
- Working with families on common behavioral problems such as bedtime resistance, toilet training, thumb sucking, toddler misbehavior and adolescent instructional control issues with an emphasis on parent- and child-friendly language and easy to understand health education and prescriptive treatment.
- The second segment discusses specifically the role of the behavioral consultant in terms of necessary skills to establish ourselves as conditioned reinforcers for parents and families to assist in collaboration success. The specific components discussed include initial contact, interviewing skills during an assessment, active listening skills, giving and receiving feedback, setting expectations and interpersonal don’ts that behavioral consultants should try to avoid. All of these are reviewed with everyday child-and-family scenarios.
