Describes the history and behavioral roots of instructional design, starting with B.F. Skinner. Using that history as a foundation, provides several key principles for effective instructional design that lead to application and retention of the instructional concepts in corporate settings. Also provides practical advice for measuring and sustaining newly trained skills.
Objectives:
- Identify common truths and myths about effective instructional design
- Identify Skinner’s contributions to instructional design
- Describe why performance analysis is important prior to designing instruction
- List basic principles used to design effective instruction
- Identify examples and nonexamples of effective instruction
- Identify ways to measure and sustain newly trained skills
