The IAOIP, International Association of Innovation Professionals, is the world’s leading membership group of professional innovators. The IAOIP has defined a comprehensive body of knowledge pertaining to all facets of innovation and offers a variety of support and learning opportunities to members. The association also offers certification examinations that attest to individuals’ knowledge of innovation.
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the field of innovation, focused on the role of the innovation manager, and is intended to prepare the individual for the IAOIP Management of Innovation Certification Exam.
The course is based on the material contained in the IAOIP’s comprehensive innovation textbook, the Global Innovation Science Handbook, 1st edition (McGraw Hill, 2014), with supplemental material focused on innovation management drawn primarily from The Agile Innovation Master Plan by Langdon Morris, and is highly applicable to innovators and innovation managers who wish to improve their knowledge and skills.
The Handbook and The Agile Innovation Master Plan cover the broad range of subjects collectively referred to as the “science of innovation,” as reflected within the IAOIP certification body of knowledge. The course covers each section of the Management of Innovation exam and presents the key concepts required to complete the certification exam at the end of the course.

Course Objectives:
- Understand and describe the essential skills and knowledge required for the successful management of innovation, as expressed in the IAOIP Global Innovation Science Handbook and The Agile Innovation Master Plan.
- Understand and describe the overall Agile Innovation Master Plan framework as a guideline for the structure and implementation of a systematic innovation program in a corporation or government agency.
- Understand and describe the IAOIP innovation body of knowledge as required for completion of the Management of Innovation Level exam.
- Provide an opportunity for the student to compare his or her level of knowledge with the body of knowledge and identify his or her strengths and weaknesses prior to taking the certification exam.
- Describe the IAOIP certification system and its importance to the professional development of the individual engaged in bringing innovation content into their everyday work activity.
- Develop a broad level of understanding of the rich and varied realm of the science of innovation as understood by the IAOIP.
